After Nearly a Century, Service Club of Manatee County Continues to Change Young Lives

Since 1927, a very special group of women has been hard at work transforming the lives of Manatee County children. Service Club of Manatee County, a nonprofit organization, is a united group of women who share a common goal: To raise and distribute funding for the support and well-being of local children who are in need of food, shelter, clothing, health services, and education. After nearly a century of generosity, this organization is still on a mission to change children’s lives. Today, the Service Club includes 40 active members and more than 100 sustaining members.

Antiques market draws hundreds to raise money for children’s charities
PALMETTO, FL (February 25, 2017)
Some were looking for a piece of antique jewelry as a gift for a loved one. Others were just looking for unique items to add to their own collections. Hundreds came out Saturday to the Service Club of Manatee County’s 52nd annual Charity Antiques, Vintage and Collectibles Market in the Bradenton Area Convention Center, shopping and helping to raise money for local nonprofit organizations that help children in Manatee County.

Service Club of Manatee County awards record amount in grants
MANATEE COUNTY, FL (Tuesday, May 3, 2016)
The Service Club of Manatee County awards a record $124,500 in grants Tuesday to local organizations that provide services for children. Recipients range from arts groups such as ArtCenter Manatee and Manatee Players that use the funding to provide scholarships to children whose families don't have a lot of money; to Church of the Cross, which provides back-to-school support for 50 students at Moody Elementary; to Hope Family Services, which will use the money to buy food for children who reside at its shelter for victims of domestic abuse.
Community's neediest children helped by antique show proceeds

Every detail, including pink flowers filling a larger-than-life vase carved from ice complementing a burlap-and-lace decorating theme, is in place for a venerable event known as much for its social graces as its continued philanthropy to help the community's neediest children. All hands are busy for the 36 club members and the bulk of the 100 sustaining, or retired, members of the Service Club of Manatee County to stage the annual Antiques, Vintage and Collectibles Show. Just because this is the 51st year doesn't mean the club glosses over planning or forgets to update the practices for the times.

Please accept my letter regarding the Service Club of Manatee County. This group of ladies is one of the most valuable assets of Manatee County. For 50 years the Service Club has worked tirelessly toward their goal of helping deprived children in Manatee County. I am fortunate to have received their benevolence for the past four years to assist in providing weekend food to homeless and food-deprived children through a back-pack program, Elks Feeding Empty Little Tummies, Inc.
Manatee's oldest ladies service club sets giving record
BRADENTON, FL (May 8, 2015)
The Service Club of Manatee County, the oldest ladies service club in the county, raises money to help needy children through its Antiques and Collectibles Show every February at the Bradenton Area Convention Center. The 50th antique show this year raised a all-time record of $64,000. Because of record donations, The Service Club of Manatee County was able Thursday to donate a single-year high of $111,200 to 28 nonprofit charities for children in need, said Eileen Hoffner, president of the club started in 1927.
Service Club Receives $15,000 Grant
TAMPA, Fla. (Nov. 10, 2014)
During this season of giving, the Bi-Lo Holdings Foundation is giving more than $250,000 to benefit 22 local nonprofits throughout Tampa in collaboration with its Winn-Dixie stores. This is in addition to the more than $245,000 and 2,241,615 pounds of food Winn-Dixie is working to reinvest in the Tampa community by the end of 2014 through the contributions of its customers, business partners, associates and company dollars.
Grants were awarded to charitable organizations with missions to address hunger alleviation and hunger-related health and education issues. The foundation reviewed applications from several hundred nonprofit groups and conducted in-depth reviews of their services and reach within each community.

Antique show deemed a success

Continuing a 49-year tradition, members of the Service Club of Manatee welcomed shoppers to its antiques and collectibles show. While the club is still tallying up the results from the three-day event from Feb. 28 to March 2, they believe the show profits will allow them to give about $90,000 in grant money to local organizations that serve children. The club helped 33 local charities last year.

Girl's show of support appreciatedMore than 600 patrons and supporters attended the preview reception at the Bradenton Area Convention Center for Service Club of Manatee County's 49th Antiques and Collectibles Show.This event is service club's major fundraising event every year. Guests were treated to a seated dinner catered by Carrabba's Italian Grill and later previewed the antiques and collectibles presented by 48 dealers from across the country.Service Club was founded in 1927 and is one of the oldest women's service organizations in Bradenton.The club began when a small group of women banded together after noticing children going to school without lunches. They quietly distributed lunches to those in need.

For the 49th year, members of the Service Club of Manatee are looking for people who love antiques and collectibles to attend their annual show.
With event proceeds, the club helps an array of children's services and charities in Manatee County. The event opens Friday and continues through Sunday at the Bradenton Area Convention Center. New this year is dinner catered by Carrabba's for those attending the preview Friday night. The menu will include chicken marsala, penne pasta tossed in pomodoro sauce, Caesar salad, focaccia bread and cheesecake. On Saturday, people who want to find out the value of a personal item can visit the Kennedy Brothers booth from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. for antique appraisals. There will be more than 50 dealers. Among them will be gold buyers and people who can repair crystal and jewelry.
